Light Sunday Supper

Some of you know that I’ve started a little confectionary business that specialises in special diets, but also caters to those with regular diets who just like extra care & quality ingredients in their treats. I’ll be posting more about CatTs TreaTs in future, but in the meantime I thought I’d answer a question that I keep hearing from those who know about my new business.

Q: So do you still cook dinner after spending the day in the kitchen?

A: YES! The dinners arent always complicated though.

Above is a snap shot of our light Sunday supper in progress. Steak strips (seasoned with himalayan salt, black pepper & dried cellery) & carrot chips grilled on a skiller with melted butter & coconut oil (1/2 & 1/2), served with a freshly made garlic & mushroom cream sauce (thickened with oats).  A great way to end a weekend of over eating. Everyone loved it, even the hubby & kids.

I hope to post the story behind CatTs TreaTs some time.

Red Lips for April

Those who know me, know that I don’t wear make up. None! Not of any kind, unless absolutely forced (like my wedding, my husband’s formal work functions etc…). But I have committed to wear lipstick for the WHOLE of April!!! & not just any lipstick, but bright RED lipstick. But why…?

Why make myself want to claw off my own lips (I really hate make up!)?

Well, I decided that if men can endure Mo-vember even when they hate the feeling of a mastache, then I can wear lipstick for a good cause… Even though it has meant wearing red lips to e beach, the water park, the gym… & even on laundry days.

The cause is good! RedMyLips is a movement to educate people about sexual violence, in the hope that it will eradicate myths & reduce such behaviour.

It is hard to believe when you think about it logically, but most victems of sexual violence are blamed & even persecuted for the crime committed against them! While many perpetrators feel vindicated & justified in their behaviour. This is an injustice that not only destroys individuals, but impacts whole communities.

No one has the right to rape or sexually violate another person! Ever! No matter what ther arguement is… (Except maybe if a rapist gets his genetals destroyed in self-defence… I guess that could be considered violation, but could also be considered justified…)

So when you see me (or anyone else who does not normally wear red lipstick) sporting bright red lips during April, be reminded that we are speaking out against sexual violence, & not ‘asking for it’ like so many people (men & women) seem to think!

Easter Day 3/10: Jesus Denied

Readings:

Jesus predicts Peter’s denial: Matthew 26:30-35

Desciples desert Jesus: Matthew 26:56

Peter denies Jesus: matthew 26:69-75

Explaination:

All Jesus’ friends left Him, even Peter who followed at a distance, was too scared to admit that they were friends, or even that he knew Jesus.

Jesus was expecting this… And when He predicted it, Peter couldn’t imagine deserting Jesus. It is easy to swear our allegience, but when opposition comes we still sometimes fall. It is good for us to remember that the Peter who denied Jesus, is the same man who the Lord used powerfully to build His church. There can be no doubt that he is in heaven with Jesus, even though he denied Him.

We won’t always be as good as we want to be, but that is precicely why Jesus died on the cross for us. There is enough forgiveness to cover your sins, God can (& will) use you for His purposes, just turn back to Jesus.

Easter Day 2/10: Jesus Betrayed

Readings:

Deal is struck: Matthew: 26:14-16

Jesus foresees the betrayal: Matthew 26:20

Betrayal: Matthew 26:46-56

Explaination:

Jusdas was one of Jesus’ close friends, one of the 12 chosen disciples. He betrayed Him with a kiss… A sign of intamacy and love. This must have been a very bitter and painful part of His death.

Can you imagine your good friend betraying you to die, and doing so in such a seemingly intimate way? It is the worst case of betrayal I can think of. It helps provide perspective to the pain & bitterness I experience when friends & family let me down or betray me.

Poeple may let me down, but Jesus never will. He loves us so much that he knowingly allowed Judas to betray Him. Jesus allowed this so that He could die on the cross for our sins, but also as part of experiencing life allong with us. He knows these feelings and was still able to love us.

Easter day 1/10: Jesus Anointed

Readings:

Baptism: Matthew 3:16-17

Passage read in the temple by Jesus about Himself: Isaiah 61:1-2 (Luke 4)

Anointed with perfume: Matthew 26:6-13

Explaination:

To be anointed meant to be chosen and sent for a possition of leadership (eg David’s anointing 1Samuel 16:13).

Therefore we see hear Jesus’ anointing at the beginning of His ministry (at His baptism), and towards the end of His earthly ministry, just before Its climax with His crusifiction & resurection. It is part of His Kingdom being established.

Jesus is The King, God’s chosen one to lead His peaple back to Him.
